February is "Heart Healthy" month so get a jump start on treating your heart to some TLC and come and hear Mary Bice, RN and Family Obesity Coordinator for Centra Health talk about "Portion Contral and Calorie Control." She will share her wealth of information on how to eat healthier, make better food choices and contrl weight by cutting calories and watching portions. If followed, her suggestions will guarantee a successful and healthier lifestyle! A presentation you won't want to miss. The program is free and refreshments will be served. "WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA TRIP"

Tired of winter, then let's head south to the city of Wilmington, North Carolina. This charming city located in the southeastern corner of North Carolina has much to offer for the everyday traveler and is known for its rich history and small city charm! Transportation will be provided by Abbott Trailways and
accomodations will be at the Hampton-Inn & Suites Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach, located at 1989 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, North Carolina, 28403.
Our first tour will begin at the lovely Airlie Gardens, established in 1901 and known for its combination of formal gardens as well as its breathtaking wildlife. The azaleas will be in full bloom. A spectacular and enchanted sight to see! Dinner will be enjoyed at the Bluewater Waterfront Grill located on the Intercoastal Waterway where you will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the boats coming and going as well as their delicious cuisine.
After an evening of sweet dreams and a morning of leisure, our second day will begin with a wonderful tour of the Burgwin Wright House and gardens. This 1770 Georgian styled home is the oldest home in the southeastern area and is knwon for its fine furnishings, terraced gardens and pristine orchards. In 1781, Lord Cornwallis occupied this home as his headquarters before his defeat and surrender at Yorktown, Virignia. This charming property creates a link with the past and is an excellent example of a colonial gentleman's town residence.
All aboard, a simple lunch will be enjoyed on the Henrietta III. This narrated boat cruise will float the scenic Cape Fear River and share the history and point of interests along the way. After our cruise, spend some time walking through the charming streets of the historical area of Wilmington before you board a trolley and enjoy the sites of the city as narrated by a step-on guide. After our driving tour, dinner is on your own and you may choose from one of the many restaurants located in the waterfront area. A full-day, but a very fun one!
Our final day will begin with a self-guided tour of the USS-NC. This historic adventure will take you back in time as you will view the bravery that the crew of this ship displayed as they fought in every major naval offensive in the Pacific during WWII. Rumor has it that this ship is haunted! Following the ship tour and a quick lunch, our last treat of the trip will be to visit the beautiful gardens of Orton Plantation. Tucked away in Brunswick County, this historical plantation built in 1735 and once known for its production of rice fields is located on the Cape Fear River and is truly a sight you won't forget!
The cost is $350.00 per person (Double Occupancy) for Y-members and $375.00 per person for non-Y members. (Please add $125.00 if you would like single occupancy.) The price includes round trip transportation by Abbott Trailways, accomodations, all tours and dinner on Tuesday evening and lunch on Wednesday afternoon. A deposit of $75.00 per person is due by Friday, March 19, 2010 and the remaining balance is due Friday, April 2, 2010. cancellation policy is 100% refundable on total amount if made prior to Friday, April 2, 2010. The Active Adult Coordinator must be notified. Loss of deposited amount of $75.00 will incur if cancellation is made after Friday, April 2, 2010. All registrations and payments meay be made at the front desk of either the Jamerson YMCA or the Downtown YMCA. Book Club always meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 11:45am in the Jamerson Senior/Teen Room. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, April 14, 2010. It is always a good time for new members to join in the reading fun and they are always welcomed. No need to pre-register, just show up!

You won't want to miss this opportunity to enjoy the 16th annual "Festival of the Book," where authors and readers are brought together to promote and celebrate books and readings. This one-day trip to Charlottesville is the largest gathering of authors, writers and readers. The day promises to offer diversity in speakers and topics and the schedule of events may be obtained online at www.vabook.org; (click on schedule and then schedule by day.)
Transportation will be provided by the YMCA mini-buses and will depart from the Jamerson YMCA at 7:30am. Cost is $29.00 for Y-members and $32.00 for non-Y members. Meals are on your own. "GREENSBORO, NORTH
CAROLINA TRIP"

Let's kick-off the season of spring and get out of town for a fun-filled day in the wonderful city of Greensboro, North Carolina! We will travel by Abbott Motor Coach and begin the day with a tour of the new International Civil Rights Museum, which opened on February 1, 2010. This museum commemorates the 50th anniversary of the non-violent protests of the 1960 Greensboro sit-ins that served as a catalyst in the civil rights movement. The museum is in the F.W. Woolworth Building where the original portion of the lunch counter and stools are on display from the actual sit-in. It is filled with other artifacts and exhibits that will inspire us to remember a time in history that changed the nation and influenced a world of difference!
After a little history, it's off to the Barn Dinner Theatre for an afternoon of entertainment. The Greensboro Barn Theatre is the oldest continually operating dinner thatre in America. Lunch will be enjoyed as we feast on a buffet fit for kings and queens and the show promises to be a crowd pleaser. It will include a live band and feature songs such as "Five Feet High and Rising, " "I Walk the Line, " The Man in Black." You won't want to miss this musical show that will touch on his love and faith, struggle and success about the man in black.

You won't want to miss this opportunity to be with friends, visit the Academy of Music in downtown Lynchburg and enjoy an evening showing of "Into the Woods," a musical that promises to delight all ages. This Tony Award winning musical is about an ambivalent Cinderella, a blood-thirtsy Little Red Riding Hood and a witch who can dance like you've never seen a witch dance! All these characters are part of James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's brilliant, musical fratured fairy tale. Dinner will be enjoyed before the show at Depot Grille restaurant.
